Arrow GW Rules on Dropped Items

Hello guys,

I have a question and I have asked plaync about it but they have still not replied, I am wondering what you think about this:

Player A drops an item (for argument sake lets say he drops 50k), then he picks it up. He subsequently drops it again (to taunt others around him I guess), only this time he gets kicked error 007 or something.

Player B then picks up this 50k that player A dropped and is no longer logged in to pick up.

What are THE RULES around this? Player A says player B is obligated to return it. However if player B had not picked it up player A would still not have 50k because he dropped it and did not pick it up.

Obviously Player B should return it as good will, however in this case player A has gotten nasty with player B calling him/her various names and making threats.

I just want to know about the RULES around this.

Thanks for the help

Aren't any. There's really nothing anyone's going to do about it. There's also no reason to be dropping anything like 50k on the ground.

In this case it wasn't 50k that was dropped I am just using it as an example, but I am just trying to learn about the facts.

Even if Player A dropped 50k and Player B picked it up before Player A did I still dont think he is Obligated by GW code of conduct to return it to Player A.

I think he/she should as it is the right thing, but do the RULES say he/she HAS TO RETURN IT?

There are no rules... If it did happen, it would be the player A's own fault for trying to show of or for being careless. There's still no rules even if Player A is there whilst Player B picks it up.

As for it being in the rules... No it shouldn't be.

I agree with MrGoat on this one - if a player is silly enough to be dropping any value items just so he/she can show off, then thats their own fault and should learn from it.

Note though:- some players (inc. myself) may drop items in an area so all players can take a look. This gets around trade windows with each of your party members. It would be nice to think that if you Err7ed at this point, someone would pick it up and give it back later.
However, it then falls under the "human nature/good will" banner - some players will return the items because they are nice, others may haggle for a "reward" to return it and the plain nasty selfish players ( ) will keep it for themselves.

Admittedly, I wouldn't mind a player dropping 50k on the floor and err7-ing eg freeforall!

I too agree that if you drop something to 'taunt' someone it's your own fault if you loose it (and I actually find it rather amusing).

I would say if you drop an item like that, you have to be prepared to give it up.

Player "B" should give it back b/c it is the right thing to do, but they aren't obligated to do so.

Well in this case Player B was fully going to give it back to Player A. However before player B was able to do anything, Player A logged back on and started being Agressive, swearing and threatening Player B, so now Player B is less inclined to help Player A.

I just wish that ANet would give the the RULES around it ASAP, Player B does not want to get into trouble with ANet if indeed there is a rule governing the return of said item to Player A

Offical rules? None, and would be silly to have them. People should let their conscience and sense of human decency and common sense guide them in what to do in a situation like this.

No rules for sort of thing and it's quite clear by now

Off topic
I was in a mission before and one player kept dropping 50+K in random amounts and everyone was hoping that he will get code 7 error lol.

I havent seen enough of that! If, near end of a mission, if I get a salvageable drop, and my inventory is full, I can just drop an item, pick up salvage drop, salvage it, then pick up dropped item right? Not usually! Manys the time Ive had to wait for party members to move away, in case any of them are a "grabby hands". Ive had a few missions where I was right next to the savageable drop(like an armor or something obviously salvageable), and AS SOON AS I DROP ITEM, BAM! picked up by another party member. Good Lord man, whatever are you going to do with that non stackable, non rune containing drarven armor? SALVAGE IT PERHAPS? GRRRRRRRRR

There are no Rules like that...It'd be silly. You can't Force good will and kindness on people.

If anyone broke the rules, It was Player A, because the rules state that you cannot abuse someone verbally like you described.

Ive seen a player lose his golden stormbow like that in a B/P tombs run.

Someone was AFK and player A kept dropping it to show off and picking it up again. Some players kept trying to pick it up, so he ran a bit and continued. After a while he screwed up and player B picked it up.

The question isnt if B should give it back, the question is, isnt A's own stupidity to blame?

This sounds like the dragon festival. Presents for the quick. Snooze you lose. On a side note if someone wants to veiw your crap open a trade window to show them. If you put it on the ground it is free game to all.

If player "A" died and was unable to get a good drop and "B" refused to res him untill the drop was up for grabs then "B" is a jerk.

If "A" had an item already in his inventory and kept dropping/picking it up just to be an elitist fool then erred out, that's called karma. "B" has every right to it, with no guilt pangs, unless said fool is a friend. Just say, "I knew it was yours, so I left it on the ground for you."

This reminds me of my law studies. Simple fact, morals don't come in to this situation because its Guild Wars and there are more perfect crystallines than morals.

If you drop an item on the ground, you're aware that it is available for anybody to pick up and are therefore implying that the item is unwanted. There are safe means of trading/showing items (the trade window) therefore dropping items should never have to happen. You know the risks and Anet can't be held responsible because they have provided a safe means of shwoing/trading items.

Can you PLEASE stop all this 'player A/B' crap... we know its either you or someone you know.

Either way its 'player A's fault for been a moron and dropping the gold on the floor. There are no rules for picking up money that you dropped for been a tit and happened to err7.

I learned my lesson.....I never drop stuff on the ground, even when its just me and my hubby playing.....always do a trade window to give/recieve stuff....

long time ago (ascalon I think) my hubby salvaged a bow string for me, and dropped it on the ground.....we both got disconnected (argh, dang dsl)....but lucky for us he still had the string when we finally got back on....but we learned to never do that again!

had the drop-cause-need2salvage happen as well, but someone did pick up the item I dropped and returned it to me! there are some nice people playing this game!

The only rule that I saw that was broken was:

Player A logged back on and started being Agressive, swearing and threatening Player B
Feel free to report that to Anet, but they WILL NOT give you any items or money back.
